Reading Question

What I found interesting in the reading is when they were talking about how information is being transfered, and viewed in todays world. The use of portable devices for searching the web even has become very popular. I have actually met people who instead of paying for internet on their home computer, they just pay for their phones to have internet all the time and only surf the web on their phone... I have two questions:

How many of you people surf the web on their phone daily?

Do you think that one day that the home computer will be obsolete? Is the way of the future only lap tops and cell phones and if so how is that going to effect the internet market?

Sorry that was way more than two.. but it made me think...

im not sure that the home computer will be come obsolete. i think that because of the size of phones that it will be too inconvenient if that was the only way to use a computer.

I find all of the different devices overwhelming. You can get an iPod to play you music, videos, wireless internet, ect. You can get phones to play your music, videos, wireless internet, ect. Then you have your computers that do the same thing. I am not very good at using all of my devices for different reasons than their initial intended purpose i.e. phone-call, iPod-music,videos, photos, and computer-my little thing for ALL things.
So to answer the first question I never surf the web on my phone.
I do not think that the home computer will become obsolete because of people like me. I think the phone is too SMALL and too expensive. I use my computer everyday from e-mailing to playing games when I am bored.

for some reason i think that there are a good number of people who either A)don't have internet access on their phones or B) choose not to use the option. Personally, I don't have the option, but also wouldn't take it if i did have the opportunity to. This is just because I happen to play video games online, and I get stuck researching random topics for hours on end, so it would be wholly inconvenient for me to use my phone. I agree with erica too, that it's just straining on the eyes after a while. I think it's useful for those quick questions/references when you need them, but not able to replace a computer...not today, anyway

i love how you are thinking. in your future and mine. the computer is not going to be what it is today, neither is the phone. what if the phone projected onto a service? what if technology is just everywhere.

the touch screen we have on the iphone, ect is just the beginning of something really new and revolutionary in how we view and interact with information.

I can't WAIT to have internet on me at all times..it feels ridiculous saying, but how often do I want to Wikipedia or Google something a day?

A Blackberry is next on my list of to-do. Designing interfaces for phones is intimidating but something I hope to explore soon!
